Target Population
Adult students (over the age of 17) who have completed Levels A, B and C (or have the equivalent basic knowledge of Chinese) and can conduct a basic conversation in common Chinese.
Duration of Course
Regular course: 30 weeks.
Intensive course: 15 weeks.

Structure and goals of course
The course focuses on enhancing comprehension skills, with special attention devoted to conversational Chinese. Students practice the use of new vocabulary and sentence structure. Each class is comprised of a reading session and a discussion session. Through reading literature, students improve their comprehension and enhance their vocabulary. By conducting discussions, students improve their speaking skills and listening comprehension.
Homework assignments are given every week, as well as a list of new words learnt in class. The class meets once a week and students are required to complete homework assignments sent by the teacher after each lesson.
At the end of the course the student will:
alef Be able to communicate in Chinese in a more confident and fluent way, on a larger variety of topics.
alef Be able to use the Chinese language in an appropriate way in various unique Chinese cultural situations.
alef Have acquired a solid foundation for the Business Chinese stream of ChineseVoice.com.
alef Be able to construct sentences with a special emphasis (i.e. It was by train that my parents came from Beijing.")
alef Know how to construct sentences with two consecutive clauses ("although...nevertheless"; "if...then"; "because...therefore")
