The course focuses on speaking in Mandarin Chinese. Students learn basic sentence structures and grammatical rules, and acquire a vocabulary of 400 words used in basic conversation. Course texts are written in Pinyin, the widely-used transliteration system for Chinese characters. This allows students to focus on improving their communication skills, both speaking and comprehension. The class meets once a week and students are required to complete the homework assignments sent by the teacher after each lesson. |

Business Chinese |
This course is an introduction to reading, writing and speaking Mandarin Chinese. It is the equivalent course to Spoken Chinese Beginners A in vocabulary and grammar, but the focus is broader to include writing and reading Chinese characters. Students learn the basic principles of writing Chinese characters, including how to write in the correct stroke order. Students are acquainted with basic sentence structures and acquire a vocabulary of 400 words used in basic conversation on a variety of topics. The class meets once a week and students are required to complete homework assignments sent by the teacher after each lesson. |
